Things to Do Before You Move to a New House

Whether moving to a new home into a complete unknown or familiar territory, it involves a lot of complications. One way to relieve this stress is to prepare a systematic checklist and ensure that all your belongings arrive safely with a minimum of fuss and on time. Besides belongings and material things, there are a number of factors that requires proper attention and care.

Make sure to take your views when you move to a new house. Your right to vote can only be registered if the local council is informed about your new address. Be careful to notify your TV license at your new address since it does not move automatically to a new place. If your TV is unlicensed, there is a fine of up to £ 1000 followed with prosecution risk. Keep in touch with your existing and new electricity companies to inform them about your new address and giving up at least forty-eight hours notice for the removal of electricity. Similar condition applies to gas and water supply.

The local newspaper or community magazines subscribed by you should be notified of your new address. When only a couple of days are left before moving to a new house, apart from few essential things like toilet rolls, cash, matches, light bulbs and a few tools everything should be packed in a bag. Don’t forget to label the bags and boxes properly to avoid inconvenience while unpacking. You are likely to dismantle any furniture or fixtures that you are interested to carry with you, unless you have confirmed with the company for the removal of your soft furnishings to a new house. Also make sure to get the washer disconnected and to secure the drum, the transit brackets are to be fitted. Since moving house is a tiresome and thirsty chore, you need to prepare a snack-box along with tea and coffee kettle to keep you refreshing from stressful work.
